Why We Love Autumn

In Florida we don’t get a full spectrum Autumn like they do in the north. We’re delighted if the humidity backs off enough for us to crack the windows a little. We’re both from up North and remember it well… the changing leaves, the smell of a looming frost intertwined with the smokey aroma of the chimneys being being rekindled and brought a light again. The colors of the landscape become so vibrant, you’d swear there was a fire…
It’s my favorite time of year and naturally the time I crave my home time and family the most. Of all the things I miss about autumn up north it would have to be the color, and I’m pretty sure Colleen would say the same. All you have to do is look at our catalog to see how much we appreciate these colors.
So it got me thinking about what other people might like most about Autumn…. hoping you’ll share a comment or answer the below.

All the comments will be entered in a random draw to receive a Fall Inspired Prize when we get back from Quilt Market in Houston towards the end of October.

CONTEST UPDATE:  Robert Kaufmam Fabrics caught wind of our little contest and will helping out with the prize.  Our friends at Kaufman are notoriously generous when it comes to fabric and we’ll be putting in some of our own goodies as well.  Keeps those comments coming, the winner is sure to be handsomely rewarded!

Fall is my favorite season… my favorite time of year. Cooler weather, fresh air, the anticipation of “quiet time” during the winter when there don’t seem to be so many outdoor demands for my attention. No flower beds to “dread the weeds”, no grass to mow, etc. I live in Western New York. If I don’t get my driveway plowed of the snow… more time to quilt!

We don’t get much of a fall in the Phoenix area. Still I love the anticipation of the holidays. The nights start to cool off and the days finally get shorter. Any time the temperature is below 100 is a wonderful time of the year.

Autumn. It’s wonderful because it’s the season inbetween lazy heat infused days and nights and the stillness of winter. A chance to think about where we’ve been, where we are and be thankful for the opportunities. And then we can fully move onto winter (not much here in GA) the beauty in the stripped down version of nature and the chance to be snuggly warm. And then on to the promise of spring regrowth. Perhaps new versions of ourselves, varieties of seed to try, and again thankfulness for the opportunity to enjoy it.

  4. HALLOWEEN! I love all things Halloween, and it is in the Fall. That’s why I love Fall. When the boys were little, they spent weeks decorating and getting their costumes ready. We’d walk up and down streets all over town. We were lucky to live in a place small enough that we could do that. Now, I have a small witch collection. One of my boys died mid October, and since then every year one of my sister-in-laws makes me a “Halloweeney” counted cross stitch to bring me an October smile.

In Nebraska, we have the four seasons and all come in awesome colors. Our temperatures are not always, though this past summer we only had two days of upper 90’s. We’re just beginning to harvest grains so it is a busy time but the crispness of the air and the beauty of all the fall colors makes it a fun time to be out doors. I really enjoy the awakening of the greenery in the Spring the most i believe though because it means new life to me. We start calving in March and planting our crops in late April.
I wish I was going to Houston, only been there once. Talk about awesome…it is awesome! I live close to Des Moines, IA so will go there. Have fun to all who are going to Houston! Bring home lots of treasures!

There are so many things to love about autumn: the cooler weather, the gorgeous colors, the birds passing through on their way south, the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, children running through pumpkin patches, fresh picked apples, pumpkin pie, making Halloween costumes and Christmas gifts, and especially College Football!

Autumn is the best time of year to the beach, no tourists!

the best part of fall is the cool weather. Even when it is still warm there are cool undertones on your skin when you are outside. Next best is the colours of course — thee warmest of the spectrum

Though I hate to be cold, I love fall and the opportunity I have to break out my toasty warm sweaters. In my part of Kansas this year, we did not get much of a spring, and it looks like the same is in store for fall. We have gone from the 70s to the 40s in a couple of days. Call me crazy, but I will be moving to Colorado soon (longer sweater season!) where I will have plenty of wide open spaces and inspiration to work on my newest hobby; quilting, and await the birth of our first grandchild. I love the Jackson’s Pond pattern! It is how I found your website (I saw it in Quilter’s World Magazine) Are there aspen, moose or bear patterns for beginning quilters?

Autumn just reminds me of family and togetherness. The colors of fall and crisp cold weather make you just want to quilt and bake things to make your family warm and safe and happy. Nothing like home made baked goods eaten by the fire, wrapped up in a quilt made with love!*S*

  11. I am from the east coast and live in Kansas. We don’t get much color here either but we do get cold weather. I really miss the beautiful colors of the east coast. I love that quilt you have pictured there. It does remind me of the colors of the maple trees.

  12. De Cook says:

I love the fall cooking – pecan pie, pumpkin bread – yummmy smells of cinnamon and nutmeg even before tasting the dish!

  13. Patti Hyder says:

The trees are turning beautiful colors here in Virginia – it’s time for quilting and preparing for the holidays with our family!

  14. Danielle France says:

It’s almost time to start to ski again in Colorado – the trees are beautiful here too!

  15. Judy Weiss says:

I love autumn because of the wonderful change in weather and fall colors from our hot, humid Washington, DC area weather In addition, October is the month of our wedding anniversary (this year our 25th anniversary!) and the birthday of our twins — on Halloween. We always have a big, crazy Halloween. So for us, October in particular in very, very special and I look forward to it every year.

I love the fall – the muggy summer is gone and even though we don’t really have winter around here, it isn’t here yet. I’m looking forward to a big family Thanksgiving and then lots of projects to get done before Christmas!

  17. Theresa Andino says:

I love the fall because school starts again and the world settles back down to normal – a full summer with a 5 year old is not really a vacation! I have many delayed thank yous and birthday gifts to finish before I can start on the holiday rush. . .

  18. Kristy Maconi says:

Fall is the best for walking after dinner with our 1 year old in his wagon!

  19. Janice McSweeney says:

I love fall because it is such a welcome relief from the North Carolina heat! It’s so pretty here in the fall because in addition to the leaves changing into beautiful colors, there are still flowers blooming. Plus as soon as it starts turning cool, I start thinking about apples – apple pie, apple cake, … !

  20. Janice McSweeney says:

I love fall because it is such a welcome relief from the NC heat and humidity! It’s so pretty to see the leaves changing into their beautiful colors and to also see flowers still in bloom. The cool weather also makes me want to bake! Especially apples – apple pie, apple cake, …

  21. Janice McSweeney says:

I love fall because the cool weather is such a nice relief from the heat and humidity of NC! The leaves are turning their beautiful colors and there are still fall flower blooms. It also a time that I think about baking more – especially anything with apples in it!

  22. Jo Lax says:

What I love about fall in Florida is that I have NO leaves to rake!
