Stripes, Stripes and More Stripes!
Robert Kaufman has sent us 1 yard cuts of each of the Green Artisan Batik Stripes we used for our Beautiful Batik Trees project featured on the blog in December.  We’ll also add a Quilted Décor Book – did you know the whole book was inspired by one stripe print?

I swore I would be a better blogger in 2011 and this month I failed miserably. That said, it was with good reason. Colleen and her family went through some life changing events last year and in November decided they’d jump ahead a few years to start living out some of their retirement dreams a little earlier than planned. One of these plans was always to move further south down to Marco Island (Naples area) in Florida and build the perfect house, relax more and travel. They figured it would take a while to sell their house and put it on the market in mid January – it sold in less than 2 weeks with a closing date around mid March. Needless everyone has been in a bit of a spazz ever since. They haven’t even broken ground on the new house yet!

We plan to keep Toadusew merrily croaking along via a long distance relationship LOL and visit each other regularly for design and sewing retreats – what fun! At least that’s what I’m telling myself, trying to convince myself of – you get the picture. I’m sure she’s as bummed as I am, but I’m not sure if it’s because she’ll miss me or that amazing studio she had at her house – 1200 sq. ft. of well lit high ceiling heaven that hubby custom build for her with his own 2 hands. Come to think of it, I might miss that more than her LOL – just kidding.

It will be a strange couple of months for both of us. I’ve never known quilting without Colleen being a part of it. She’s as much a part of everything I’ve ever sewn as the thread I’ve made it with. The upshot is I suppose I’ll be a better blogger – what better place to share everything? And I can really dig into my long arm quilting – I’ve had that machine for almost 2 years and still pretty much suck as much as the day they delivered it. I’ve planned ahead a little and signed up for a fabric dying class, a whole cloth long arm class and OMG, even have my mother coming for 2 weeks right after Colleen leaves. I’ve done nothing but work for 4 years straight and figure a break and sometime in the sand box is the perfect start for the next chapter and whatever lies ahead…

Congratulations to Danielle (comment #23)! Danielle has won 3.5 yards of assorted Mix Master Prints used in a recent quilt courtesy of Robert Kaufman Fabrics.  We’ll be passing all of the names your provided on to Debbie Hearn, Editor of Quilt Magazine, when we go to the photo shoot tomorrow.  If she likes one of the names, we’ll have another winner to announce when we blog about our outing with the folks from Quilt Mag!
